Complete Packing Material Checklist for Indian Businesses

The Core Packing Material Categories

Indian packaging requirements fall into five functional groups. Most businesses need at least three of these, and larger operations need all five. We'll work through each one.

1. Carton Sealing & Box Closure

The most basic packaging requirement. Every dispatched box needs to be securely sealed.

• BOPP Packing Tape — The standard for carton sealing in Indian e-commerce and warehousing. Available in transparent and brown. Choose higher micron (45–50 micron) for heavy cartons or humid storage conditions. Acrylic adhesive performs better in heat than rubber adhesive.
• Masking Tape — Used for labelling, temporary bundling, surface protection during painting, and general-purpose taping where permanent adhesion isn't needed.

Quantity guide: Estimate 1 roll of BOPP tape per 15–20 medium cartons dispatched daily.

2. Surface and Void Protection

Protects individual items inside cartons from movement, impact, and surface damage.

• Bubble Rolls — The first choice for fragile items: electronics, glassware, ceramics, precision components. Small bubble (10mm) for lightweight delicates; large bubble (25mm) for heavier items needing impact cushioning. Pre-cut sheets save time for high-volume packing.
• Corrugated Roll — More economical than bubble wrap for items that need surface protection without full cushioning. Wrap around bottles, cylinders, or stack between flat items. Better for wrapping than for void filling.

3. Pallet and Bulk Load Wrapping

Essential for warehouses dispatching stacked pallets, or manufacturers shipping bulk quantities on a single pallet.

• Stretch Film (LLDPE) — Wraps the entire pallet to prevent shifting and moisture ingress. Standard 20-micron stretch film covers most pallet wrapping applications. Hand film (500mm width) is used manually; machine film is used with pallet wrapping equipment. Calculate 1–1.5 rolls per pallet for 3–4 wrap layers.
• Manual Strapping Kit — PP strap with tensioner and sealer tool for securing stacked boxes or heavy bundles. More rigid than stretch film; essential for dense, heavy pallets or bundles that need strap tension rather than wrap containment.

4. Bulk and Agricultural Packaging

For grain, seeds, sand, cement, fertiliser, or any bulk dry goods.

• Woven PP Sacks — The standard container for bulk dry goods in India. 50kg, 25kg, and custom sizes. UV-stabilised for outdoor storage. Laminated sacks prevent dust penetration and improve moisture resistance. Order with printed labelling for brand or content identification.
• Oxo Biodegradable Garbage Bags — For waste collection and disposal during packing operations. Eco-friendly option that degrades faster than standard PE bags.

5. Safety and Identification Marking

Keeps warehouse and dispatch operations compliant and organised.

• Caution Tape — Yellow-black barricade tape for marking hazardous zones, restricted areas, and temporary safety cordons during loading/unloading operations.
• Anti-Skid Floor Marking Tape — Marks pedestrian aisles, forklift lanes, fire exit paths, and hazard zones on warehouse floors. The abrasive surface adds slip resistance in wet or oily areas.
• Reflective Tape — Applied to warehouse vehicles, dock edges, and loading bay pillars for high-visibility safety in low-light conditions.
